Executive Summary

The mission of the MEU is to provide excellent continuous postgraduate medical education and support to optimise the quality of patient care and ensure superior levels of recruitment and retention of medical staff within Southern Health. The MEU uses proven and accepted learning principles and up-to-date educational tools to most effectively deliver education that is both innovative and responsive to the needs of junior medical staff. The MEU uses the most effective methods available to evaluate the quality of its educational programs and encourages continuous education and professional development.

The MEU mission is to be achieved by providing the following functions:

  1. Coordination
  2. Educational Resource
  3. Development and Delivery
  4. Research and Evaluation
  5. Support
  6. Assessment and Credentialing
  7. Communication

The Southern Health Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education (MEU), with advice from the Postgraduate Medical Education Advisory Board, serves the postgraduate education needs of medical staff at all sites of Southern Health, including the pre-vocational training of Hospital Medical Officers (HMOs) together with Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs) from facilities located at Monash Medical Centre and Dandenong Hospital.

The Centre
The Southern Health Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education (MEU) serves the postgraduate education needs of medical staff at all sites of Southern Health, including the pre-vocational training of Hospital Medical Officers (HMOs) together with Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs).
